UPDATE: Thank you all for your support. Unfortunately, today is April Fool's Day; so #BrownieVAL Ultimate not a real event.
#BrownieVAL continues to be a great stepping stone for players and volunteers looking to give esports events a shot. Thanks everyone for your continued support!
Today, #BrownieVAL founder and organizer Browntul (@browntulstar) announced the newest and biggest edition to the #BrownieVAL tournament series: a 68-team, $100,000 VALORANT tournament.
Formally titled "#BrownieVAL Ultimate", it is the first streamer community tournament to openly allow teams of 5-8 players to pit their best foot forward in ultimate tournament dominance.
Incredibly, #BrownieVAL will be teaming up with multiple Tier 2 and Tier 3 tournament organizers as well as VALORANT's North America division to bring this event to life.
"This is an incredible opportunity for us to do something special," says Browntul. "When the team at VALORANT North America approached me with this opportunity, I had to say yes. It gives streamers a special opportunity to bring their best players forward in a high-risk, high-stakes tournament format where every game is important."
"Browntul's expertise in the tournament field was important to us, especially since our presence in the grassroots scene hasn't always been the greatest," says principal game designer at Riot Games, Tim Zhang. "Thanks to him and the multiple organizers we're teaming up with, we can bring a showcase to our fans and display how anyone can be a VCT player, just like their idols on the big stage."
In this format, #BrownieVAL Ultimate will feature 68 teams. 32 teams are allocated to past #BrownieVAL teams, in which half of the roster must be filled with past #BrownieVAL participants. 28 more teams will be allocated from partner tournaments of #BrownieVAL, and then 8 more teams will be open signups. The open signups will play in a play-in tournament to round out a 64-team single-elimination bracket, where every match is a Best-of-1 series.
As a part of this special collaboration, #BrownieVAL will be partnering with content creators that will stream the games in the #BrownieVAL style, using award-winning streaming technology in vMix and NDI to deliver multiple viewpoints. While the content creators will be announced at a later date, one of the streams will be twitch.tv/browntulstar; and another will be Rendezvous VALORANT, a community VALORANT group focused on grassroots tournaments just like Browntul.
"Browntul's been a great caster for us, and we're even more excited that we can highlight our favorite Tier 2/3 players on our channel", Rendezvous VALORANT owner DJ Saunders said. "He learned a lot about the replay system from us, so we're already in sync with our tournament productions."
Also, as a first in #BrownieVAL history, each team in the tournament will gain prize money every time they win. The final prize winnings of the 1st place team is $40,000: an unprecedented amount thanks to funding from Riot Games and the UC Esports collective comprised of collegiate esports groups in California. The quarterfinals, semifinals, and grand finals will take place at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, California.
